Brown is a veteran singer-songwriter whose well-crafted songs have been recorded by artists as diverse as Willie Nelson and Carlos Santana, and he has also composed settings for the poetry of William Blake, but he is best known for “The Iowa Waltz” and other gruffly expressive, down-to-earth tributes to midwestern life and true love. He’s an engaging, at times mesmerizing performer, with a deep voice that one critic calls a “gravel-floored basement full of memories, ruminations, lusts, and last-ditch humor.” $30.
